The glittering plain, or, The land of living men

    Rare Books

When Hallblithe's betrothed is carried off in a strange ship, he sets off alone on a long search for her over land and sea. This leads him through many exciting adventures, first on the Isle of Ransom and then on the Glittering Plain, or the Acre of the Undying, where men find eternal youth. In this false paradise he is disappointed again, but learns of the purpose of the abduction--to lure him away--and makes his escape to continue the search. The strange, semi-medieval language which Morris creates is wonderfully evocative of the distant past, and this exotic and often comic story is one of his most fresh and colourful romances.
