    Scientific manuscript containing the text of lectures delivered by Rinaldini at the University of Padua. As well as discussions of Galileo's work, the manuscript also contains an account of Rinaldini's own discoveries, including that of the convection of heat. Latin text in a neat cursive hand with many illustrative diagrams in the text. Contemporary vellum-backed boards covered in paper with decorative floral motifs, with some damp staining but no loss of text.

    Italian, text is in Latin; with decorated initials. A previous owner had it trimmed for framing; there are autograph notes (in pencil) at the bottom of the leaf with directions for the framer.

    Royal quarto, with paper measuring 28.2 x 20.2 cm. Text in one column. Capital spaces with guide letters. Signatures: a-i⁸ K⁸ l-s⁸ [t]⁸ (a1, t8 blank). Imperfect: initial blank leaf (leaf a1) lacking. First initial decorated in red, blue, and green inks along with gold leaf; subsequent initials in red and blue. Rubrication in red and blue. Binding: contemporary Italian blindstamped calf over wooden boards; remnants of leather clasps. In box.

Includes inset of Oxford; arms of colleges, Oxford University, Elfred (founder of Oxford), Vere, Earl of Oxford, and the royal arms. With descriptive text on recto of first leaf; list of Oxfordshire Hundreds on verso of 2nd leaf; with notation of "Fol. 45" and "Fol. 46", signature M2 on first leaf. One column of text, 34 lines; area of text: 18 x 11 cm. With initial spaces and guide-letters; without foliation and catchwords, except for one catchword on leaf pi6. Quires pi and a-x, leaves y2.5, y3.4, z2.5 and z3.4 are folio; rest are quarto.--Cf. BM 15th cent., IV, p. 627. Signatures: pi⁶ a⁴ b-i⁶ l-z⁶ &⁶ 2a-g⁶ 2h⁴ A⁸ (A8 blank).
