One book, ca. 1930, entitled The Teacher of Oil Painting and Tapestry, 5th edition, by D. M. Campana, published by D. M. Campana Art Co., Chicago. This book is 128 numbered pages in length, and is illustrated with black and white images. The title on the front cover is within an elaborate decorative frame, and bears the subtitle: "a useful book giving many informations on the method of coloring, composition, harmony, effects, materials etc. practical and good, low price." The inside front and back covers are blank; the title page is decorated with a floral frame and a floral device which appears below the title. The book is divided into chapters, and addresses issues such as canvases, brushes, color mixing, composition, drawing and painting specific subjects such as animals or fruit. This 4-page leaflet is a brochure for summer art courses. "Sixth year. ... June thirtieth to July twelfth, Boston, Mass. ; July fifteenth to thirty-first, Ogunquit, Maine" is printed below the title on the first page, which is also illustrated with an ink drawing of a seascape. The interior 2 pages list the staff, course calendar and other information about the summer courses. On the last page is information about the philosophy and principles of the program.

One book entitled The Home Teacher, published by Lewis E. Myers & Company, Chautauqua Park, Valparaiso, Indiana, 1913. The sub-title reads: "Explaining by word and illustration the source pictures of vocations comprised in the Chautauqua Industrial Art Desk." 126 pages in length, it is an instructional book for the Chautauqua Desk. Included are testimonials from users and owners of the desk and other instructional systems, a brief history of the company, and a wide variety of projects and activities that can be completed and skills that can be acquired using the Chautauqua desk. Some of these include: writing shorthand; bookkeeping for business; industrial drawing, and portrait and landscape drawing. The front cover has black and gray printing on a red background; the spine is reinforced with a cloth strip. The insides of the front and back covers, as well as the back cover, are blank. "Korzenik 1980" is written in ms., in pencil, in the upper right-hand corner of the first page.

On the verso of the title page is printed: "Riverside, Cambridge: Electrotyped and Printed by H.O. Houghton and Company." This booklet is 52 numbered pages in length, and features white-on-black drawing card reproductions as illustrations. Following an 8-page introduction, the book is divided into two sections, Free-hand Drawing, parts 1 and 2. Both sections include use of straight and curved lines. The insides of the front and back covers, as well as the back cover, are blank. "E.A.W." (previous owner) is written in ms., in pencil, in the upper right-hand corner of the front cover. One pamphlet entitled A Syllabus of a Course of Illustrated Lectures on Historic Art: Historic Ornament and Sculpture, Series of 1899, by James Frederick Hopkins, published by Geo. H. Ellis, Boston, Massachusetts, ca. 1898. This book is 36 numbered pages in length, and is illustrated with black and white reproductions of photographs and drawings. The front cover is illustrated with a drawing of a sculpture, and is printed in green. Two quotations from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow appear on the back cover. The insides of the front and back covers are blank. "Pres of Geo. H. Ellis, Boston" and "Engravings by Folsom and Sunergren, Boston" are printed at the bottom of p. 2. The course schedule, with dates of lectures, is given on p. 4. A listing of some "General works on the history of art" is found on the next 3 pages. The remainder of the book is devoted to fuller descriptions, with illustrations, of each of the topics and sections addressed in the course. Beginning on p. 25 is "A selected list of books in the Boston Public Library recommended for reading in connection with the lectures." Tiny Tots Drawing Book

One manufacturer's advertisement/drawing book entitled Tiny Tots Drawing Book, published by Emerson Piano Co., Boston, Massachusetts, ca. 1885. Printed at the bottom of the front cover is "4- Little Pets." This 8-page booklet contains several images on each of the 8 pages, with leaves of tracing paper bound in between each leaf, for tracing. The front and back covers are chromolithographs; the front cover features a little girl holding two rabbits; the back cover features a smaller image of a little girl near a rosebush. Printed on the back cover is: "Compliments of Emerson Piano Co., 110 Boylston Street, Boston, Mass. Western Branch: 195 Wabash Ave., Chicago." Images for tracing include a horse, a pony, chickens, birds and rabbits. Some of the images have been traced. A blue ink stamp on the back cover reads: "Frank M. Grow, Sole Agent, Rutland. VT." "Winslow Bowen" is written in ms., in pencil, along the outer edge of the front cover.
